Intake & Clinical Interview
We use this initial structured interview to review your history and referral. Using an established context we can align on the goals for your assessment.

Standardized Testing
By measuring your IQ, memory, processing speed, and academic skills through proven tasks, we gain a clear understanding of how you learn and solve problems.

Behaviour & Self-Report Ratings
We use questionnaires and rating scales for further context. These are completed by you and, where applicable, informants such as parents, partners or teachers.

Written Report & Feedback
We provide a comprehensive report detailing diagnosis, cognitive profile, and actionable recommendations followed by a guided feedback session.

To ensure accuracy and comfort, testing spans 6–10 hours across multiple sessions. The final report is made to meet the specific documentation requirements of Ontario’s educational institutions, workplace accommodation programs, and most professional licensing bodies.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Does an Assessment Include?
A full psychoeducational assessment includes standardized cognitive (IQ) testing, academic achievement testing, memory and processing measures, behavioural rating scales, and a written report with diagnosis and recommendations.
How Long Does the Process Take?
Testing and interviewing spans approximately 3-5 sessions. The written report is typically completed within 4–6 weeks, followed by a dedicated feedback meeting to review findings.
How Much Does an Assessment Cost?
The assessment is billed on an hourly basis. The final cost of the assessment depends on the number of hours required to complete the interviews, testing, informant contact, report writing, final review and the feedback session. Most often psychoeducational assessments at Cogent require 10-12 hours of professional time.
Is It Covered by OHIP or Insurance?
Psychoeducational assessments are not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health benefits plans cover psychological services. Cogent provides receipts for reimbursement claims and in many cases can bill directly to the insurance company.
Will the Report Be Accepted by My School or Employer?
Yes. Cogent’s reports meet the documentation standards required by Ontario universities, colleges, employers, and most professional licensing bodies for formal accommodation requests.
Can the Assessment Diagnose ADHD, Autism, or a Learning Disability?
Yes. Cogent’s registered psychologists are qualified to diagnose ADHD, specific learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia), ASD, and related conditions identified through the evaluation.
