Get Started
The Process
1
Once your claim includes authorization for mental health services, you can either request a referral from your WSIB case manager or contact Cogent directly to get started.
2
Cogent will conduct an intake session and submit a pre-authorization request to WSIB. There is no cost to you at any stage of this process; WSIB will be billed directly.
3
A registered psychologist conducts a comprehensive assessment of your mental health and history to build a focused treatment plan that supports your recovery goals.
4
We provide treatment in structured blocks. Each session is tailored to your goals and diagnosis, focusing on your recovery and return to work.
5
At the end of each treatment block, your psychologist submits progress reports to the WSIB to keep your case manager informed throughout.
Our structure is designed to deliver a clear, achievable treatment plan that helps return you to health and occupational function. Because we handle all billing directly with the WSIB, you won’t receive an invoice, allowing you to focus entirely on your recovery.
With an approved WSIB claim and a mental health service authorization, treatments are available at no cost to eligible workers. Our team is dedicated to providing the compassionate, goal-oriented support you need.

Types of Treatment
We deliver the WSIB Mental Health Program of Care using the same evidence-based methods that define our broader practice. Our approach is structured and outcome-focused, ensuring your treatment is grounded in the science of recovery.
Yes. If your WSIB claim includes authorization for mental health services, all assessment and therapy through the program is provided at no cost to you. Cogent bills WSIB directly—you will not receive an invoice for covered services.
You need an approved WSIB claim that includes mental health service authorization. Your WSIB case manager may refer you, or you can contact Cogent directly once your mental health services are approved. We’ll handle the intake and pre-authorization process from there.
The program covers traumatic mental stress, chronic mental stress, first responder PTSD (under Ontario’s presumptive legislation), and psychological responses secondary to a physical workplace injury. Contact us if you’re unsure whether your condition qualifies.
Treatment is delivered in structured blocks pre-authorized by WSIB. The number of sessions depends on your clinical needs and treatment progress. Your psychologist works closely with your case manager to authorize additional blocks when clinically indicated.
Yes. Cogent provides both in-person sessions at our Guelph office and secure virtual therapy for clients across Ontario. Research supports the effectiveness of virtual delivery for PTSD and other trauma-related conditions.
The WSIB Mental Health Program of Care launched in April 2026, replacing the previous Community Mental Health Program. If you were receiving services under the previous program, those services continue without disruption. Contact us or your WSIB case manager for specifics.
